Data for Good: Using Data to Drive Social Impact
During the Dasra Philanthropy Week 2023, a session titled "Data for Good – A Catalyst to transform Communities" was conducted by Dasra in collaboration with Bloomberg, Societal Thinking & Stanford PACS. Since past 2 years, Dasra has been collaborating with Bloomberg, Societal Platform, and Stanford PACS to enable data agency for India’s most vulnerable communities. This initiative launched the D4GX India to search for organizations that used data-focused innovations to empower vulnerable communities.
Segment I : Fire Side Chat
In the first segment of the session, Manu Chopra, Head of Karya Foundation, and Nikita Sonavane, Managing Trustee & Co-Founder of Criminal Justice and Police Accountability Project, both finalists of the D4GX 2022 India Empowerment Challenge, shared how they used data to transform the communities they worked with.
Segment II : Panel Discussion
The second segment of the session focused on a panel discussion featuring key players who have been utilizing data for the betterment of India. The panelists included Archana Sinha, CEO, and Co-Founder of Nourishing School Foundation; Rizwan Koita, Director of Koita Foundation and Co-founder of CitiusTech; and Urvashi Prasad, Director in the Office of the Vice Chairman at NITI Aayog. The discussion was moderated by Erica Arya, the India Head of Project Tech4Dev.

Segment I : Capacity Building Workshop - Data Culture 201: A People-Centered Approach to Data
The workshop aimed to evaluate and comprehend data culture, including its domains, data levers, interconnected actions, and a practical demonstration of data culture in action. Swapneel Rane, Director at Goalkeep discussed Goalkeep's internally developed Data Culture Rubric, designed to assess how organizations engage with data and its impact on their relationship with it. Subsequently, he introduced participants to the four primary domains of data culture: data, process, technology, and strategy.
Segment II : Panel Discussion – Collaborations to Create Data-Led Impact
The panel discussion was moderated bv Neera Nundy, Co-Founder of Dasra, and consisted of Safeena Husain, Founder & Board Member of Educate Girls, Gayatri Lobo, CEO of ATE Chandra Foundation, and David Peters, Dean of the Faculty of Health at York University. The discussion focused on the collaborative efforts between NGOs, philanthropists, and academia in the context of data for development in India. It shed light on how these three stakeholders can work together to leverage data as a tool for positive change in the community.
