D4GX 2021 India Empowerment Challenge Winners

We are pleased to announce 3 grant winners for the D4GX 2021 India Empowerment Challenge.

Each winner received innovation design grants worth INR 10 lacs. Further, all shortlisted innovations received amplification support from Bloomberg, Dasra, Societal Platform, and Stanford PACS Digital Civil Society Lab’s networks, and 1:1 mentorship support from the Bloomberg Engineering and Global Data teams in India. The cohort of innovation grant winners had the opportunity to engage with practitioner fellows at the Digital Civil Society Lab - Stanford PACS through 2-3 collaborative learning sessions over a one year period. The winners also had an opportunity to fundraise further through 1:1 dialogues with a curated group of philanthropists.

Ummeed Child Development Center | Participation in home/school/community as an outcome for children with developmental disabilities

Providing agency to children with disabilities (CWD) and their families in designing their own intervention plan with professionals.

Red Dot Foundation | Safe City

Platform to crowdsource personal stories of sexual harassment and abuse in public and private spaces, and share aggregated anonymous data as hotspots on maps.

DATA TO ENRICH LEARNING TO LIVELIHOOD TRANSITIONS

Srijan Foundation | Education to Women Farmers' for Empowerment through Livelihood Promotion

Enabling financial literacy among women farmers empowering them to negotiate and make better pricing decisions without middlemen.

The D4GX 2021 India Empowerment Challenge received a total of 133 applications from organizations working across 22 Indian states in the areas of Learning to Livelihoods, Urban & Community Resilience, and Equitable Health.

More than half of the finalists work in either rural and/or semi-urban areas and all 21 finalists operate in underserved geographies.

The D4GX 2021 Shortlisted Cohort consisted of 10 organizations which were a part of the Empowerment Challenge mentorship program. The shortlisted innovators are receiving 1:1 mentorship support from the Bloomberg Engineering and Global Data teams in India and amplification support across Bloomberg, Dasra, Societal Platform, and Stanford PACS Digital Civil Society Lab’s networks.

An application that gives women access to formal financial services, helps them choose financial products, and claim financial rights.

Praxis Institute for Participatory Practices | COLLECT

Community and worker-led monitoring and accountability system to collect information on real-time basis and use that for local advocacy to realize immediate health relief and entitlements.

Scaling City Institutions for India (SCI-FI) programme at Centre for Policy Research (CPR) | SCIFI CITY PLATFORM

Web-based spatial planning tool that analyzes and visualizes geo-spatial data to aid quick and accurate decision making.

DATA TO ENABLE EQUITABLE HEALTH SERVICE

Shelter Associates (SA) | PLUS CODES

Digital location address given to every location which will allow community residents to leverage services such as postal, emergency and other online services to their doorstep.

Uninhibited | HELLO SAATHI

Menstrual and SRH tele-medicine helpline bridging access to information and healthcare to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 lockdown on last mile marginalized menstruators, sex workers, and transgender individuals.

The D4GX 2021 India Empowerment Challenge received an equal number of applications in the Idea and Matured stages, which were scaled with Proof of Impact after 3-4 years of work, and the largest pool of applications were in the pilot stage.

Provides people in villages seeking health services with referral pathways, pro-bono or subsidized healthcare services including on-ground awareness camps, and services through telemedicine centre.

DoctorsforSeva Arogya Foundation (AarogyaSeva) | PHC 2.0 - Transforming Post Covid Affordable Health Access

Digital ECG device that enables a patient to get ECG at home or at PHC through a health worker, and get doctor consultation based on the reports via mobile app.

Dost Education | Integrated early learning program for parents and frontline workers

Dost empowers Anganwadi workers with data on early learning practices in their region to help them effectively engage with families.

90% of the D4GX 2021 India Empowerment Challenge finalist organizations are women-led, with either their CEO or Founder being a woman and/or 50% or more of the senior leadership is constituted by women.
